The Epworth Children’s Home Alumni Association’s annual “Cookout for Kids” fundraiser features barbeque fresh off the grill, homemade baked goods, live music, and vintage automobiles. The 7th annual event was held on Saturday, April 11, 2015, on Epworth’s campus from 11:00 to 4:00.
Chicken and pork plates are $10, kids plates $5, and whole Boston butts for $30 and orders may be eat-in or take-out. Homemade baked goods will be available for purchase from the Red Hat Honeys. All purchases may be made at the event or pre-ordered by emailing epworthalumniassociation@gmail.com.
Over 30 beautifully restored, vintage Model A Fords will be on display from the Palmetto A’s automobile club. Entertainment includes live music from Jellyroll & Delicious Dish and the Juniors as well as balloon art for children.
The event is hosted by adults who spent some or all of their childhoods at Epworth. For 119 years, Epworth alumni have transitioned from children from a disrupted childhood to become independent and successful adults. Epworth alumni include business leaders, ministers, decorated military veterans and a wide spectrum of everyday successful citizens. Through the “Cookout for Kids” the alumni return to the Epworth campus to give back to the place that helped raise them and provide for the next generation of children.
Volunteers are needed for the event. Barbeque cook teams will set up their own equipment on campus and cook all night to prepare barbeque for service on Saturday. If you are interested in volunteering as a cook team or to help with hospitality and service on Saturday, please contact epworthalumniassociation@gmail.com.
